Progress: Lesson 9 / 10

Guarding the Tao (護道)

Once you become a real Taoist, you will face many hurdles. These obstacles often come from “evils” that try to attack your path, destroy your faith, weaken your connection, and push you away from the Tao. That is why guarding the Tao is required. If you don’t guard it, you will lose it.

Common Hurdles Come From People Around You

One of the most common obstacles comes from the people closest to you — parents, relatives, friends, coworkers, or even your spouse.
If they are not on the same Tao as you, they can become an obstructive force. They may discourage you, plant doubts in your mind, or even pressure you to quit. Many parents will even try to convince their children that the Tao is a scam, simply because they do not understand it.

This is normal. But you must be mentally prepared for it.

Other Sects and Other Religions Can Also Try to Pull You Away

Sometimes, other sects or religions become the “evil force” trying to knock you off your path.
In the old days of martial arts, one school would challenge another. If a school lost the battle, they lost their students too. This is the same idea — competition, conflict, and pressure are normal.

If you meet these challenges, do not collapse. Treat them like opportunities to sharpen your skills. If you lose the first battle, upgrade yourself and win the next.

The Tao Will Give You Opportunities to Grow

When a disciple reaches a certain stage, the Tao will purposely give them more chances to use their power. You may encounter more attacks, or people around you may suddenly need your help. This is not a coincidence — it is an opportunity to grow.

One of my disciples was quiet, not naturally the “fighter” type. After she was chosen by the Tao, her entire life shifted. She took a new job — night shift in a mental hospital — and suddenly she was facing constant spiritual attacks. She wasn’t even hardcore into magic yet, but the Tao saw her potential.
When the Tao chooses you, your life opens doors for you to fight, learn, and upgrade.

We say this all the time: If you have many chances to use magic, it means the Tao is choosing you.
Use the opportunity. Your battles train you.

Guarding the Tao Includes Guarding Each Other

Remember, the Tao includes everyone in the sect. Guarding the Tao does not only mean protecting yourself — it also means protecting your lineage brothers and sisters. If someone in the sect is attacked, or needs help, stepping up to protect them is also guarding the Tao.

Why Your Protection Doesn’t Work

Earlier we said the Tao is a mirror.
If you don’t guard the Tao, don’t expect the Tao to guard you.

Many disciples complain:
“Why is my protection FU not working?”
“Why didn’t I get help?”

Look at what you have been doing.
When others in the lineage needed help, did you step up?
Did you ask questions?
Did you learn?
Did you offer support?
Or did you sit quietly and claim you “don’t know enough”?

“I haven’t learned enough to help.”
That is your problem — why haven’t you asked? Why haven’t you acted?
Laziness is the issue.

If you keep making excuses, the Tao will reject you. The Tao is extremely picky about who it keeps. Potent power is not given to those who treat the path lightly or those who do not deserve it.

Guard the Tao with your heart and your actions — then the Tao will guard you in return.
