Progress: Lesson 4 / 10
Finding the Tao (求道)
There are many different sects of Taoism in this world. So the big question is: Which Tao should you follow? This is just like choosing a martial art style. It’s not a small decision, because once you start the journey, it is supposed to be a lifelong relationship.
Traditional Discipleship vs Modern “Business Model”
In modern society, many traditional arts have shifted from the old discipleship style to a business-style teaching model. Instead of disciples, they now call you “students.” As long as you are paying, you are treated as a customer. You get what you paid for — nothing more, sometimes even less. And once you stop paying, the relationship becomes cold and distant.
Because of this, many masters no longer teach the real secrets. Why would they pass on powerful magic to a student who might disappear in two months? Without long-term trust, loyalty, and commitment, there is no hope. A true master will not hand divine powers to someone who treats the path like a short-term class.
How Serious It Was in the Old Days
In ancient times, entering a sect was a huge deal. Disciples would swear to the gods with formal oaths to ensure loyalty, proper conduct, and purity of heart. A well-known tradition was drinking three bowls of magic water while reciting an oath. If the disciple ever betrayed the sect, used the magic for evil, or acted against the Tao, they would face harsh consequences — early death, miserable luck, poverty, isolation, and punishment from all the gods of the lineage. The same gods who blessed you with power could also destroy you when you turn corrupted.
If you feel scared by this idea, it means your faith is not enough or your heart has something wrong — and then you are not meant for the sect.
Finding the Tao Today
Today, things are very different. Many masters have modernized their systems. They accept anyone who pays, and the teachings become watered down with unrelated content. If you get ordained into the government-controlled Taoism in China, they may spend years teaching you calligraphy, herbal tea, music, cultural arts, tai chi exercises, and so on. These are all fillers, not true Taoist teachings.
You might only get the real knowledge if you are extremely committed, become part of the inner circle, and prove yourself for years. That is why many temples offer “summer-camp style” programs about tea, tai chi, and herb pouches — fun activities but completely disconnected from the religious core.
Choosing a Sect and Choosing a Master
Finding a real Tao to follow is not easy. You must not only look at the sect, but also the master. If the master cannot communicate with you, never has time for you, or is always traveling, what can you truly learn? Some masters are famous and skilled, but they have 10,000 disciples. After your initiation, your name may be forgotten within hours.
You need a Tao you resonate with, and a master who can actually guide you.
What Our Lineage Offers
In our lineage, we are fortunate to live in Canada with true freedom. We can teach real Taoist magic without censorship or restrictions. We get straight to the point. We do not teach fillers — no tea classes, no poetry sessions, no cultural decorations. You are here to learn real Taoism, real magic, and real divine teachings.
It is strict. It is demanding. And we are very picky about who we pass this power to.
But if this is the kind of Tao you prefer — direct, powerful, no nonsense — then you are in the right place.
We are a small sect. I can only manage a handful of disciples, but I give them everything I can, every day. My disciples can reach me 24/7. Teaching here is constant and ongoing. Some people complain that we are “too overwhelming” or “too intense.” Good — that tells us they are not fit for the path. We are not here to waste time. We expect disciples who want to learn, not those who want to sip tea and stare at clouds.
There are other sects for that. Not here.
When You Find the Right Tao
If you have found a Tao that matches your heart, a sect that resonates with you, and a master you trust — then it is time to take the next step.
