Progress: Lesson 9 / 10
Building an Altar
Building an altar is not required immediately, but eventually you will want one. It is like having your own fixed workstation at home. It protects your home, protects you, and gives you a stable place to work with the Tao.
Altars do not appear “big” on day one. All altars start small and slowly grow over time.
If budget is an issue, talk to us first. We can always start you with a smaller setup and build it up step by step. That said, if you are able to get a bigger table from the beginning, it is usually better — almost everyone runs out of space very quickly.
An altar is the workstation of a Taoist.
It is like a computer for you to communicate with the gods, and also a place for the gods to stay and live in your home.
You are not just “placing” gods there. You are cultivating your own gods through the altar.
These become your gods. You and your family will contribute energy, offerings, and life into them. Over time, this builds a very powerful presence in your home.
This power protects you and your family, and it is also the source you draw from when you use magic.
An altar must be protected.
Just like a computer needs security software, an altar needs proper protection — or it can be hijacked very quickly.
When you first start your altar, your master (me) will usually be the one guarding and protecting it.
As you progress, you will receive altar FU and other tools to strengthen and secure the altar on your end.
Always communicate with your Si Juen before setting up or ordering altar items.
Below are the approved starting items for altar setup:
An altar is not built in one day. Start small. Build steadily. Let it grow together with your cultivation.
The altar grows as you grow. The stronger your heart and faith become, the stronger the altar becomes with you.
